Book of Church Order. The constitution of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, subordinate to the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, consists of its standards of doctrine, government, discipline, and worship, namely, its Confession of Faith, Larger and Shorter Catechisms, Form of Government, Book of Discipline, and Directory for the Public Worship of God.   The Book of Common Prayer contains “instructions” for public worship. The first Book of Common Prayer was created in England more than years ago, with a goal of rendering the prayers of worship in the language of the gathered people instead of the language of the educated elite.

Public church attendance could open them up to abuse. The command indicates that the benefits of attendance outweigh any possible threat. The Christian life was never meant to be solitary. All of the biblical metaphors for a church indicate a plurality, never a singularity: we are a body, a flock, a building, and a holy nation.   Here are 20 worship Scriptures to pray as perfect prayers of worship. As you abide in prayer in the coming days, let your prayers be sweetened with these beautiful cries of worship. 1 Chronicles Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!

These essays by Richard A. Muller and Rowland S. Ward take a fresh look at the Standards in their historical context. The first part of the book investigates the exegetical background to the Confession, and the second explores the issues, priorities, and debates behind the Directory for Public Worship.   The reading of the Holy Scriptures in the congregation is a part of the public worship of God and should be done by the minister or some other person. (emphasis added) What in the world does that mean?
